Frenship High School in Wolfforth, Texas is the home of the award-winning Tiger Band. Each year the FHS Tiger Band performs and competes all across West Texas, to the delight of many. With 250+ band members, the Tiger Band features many of the finest young musicians in the state.
During marching season the Tiger Band supports the Tiger football team at each regular season and playoff game - home and away - offering up rousing tunes (and the ever present "Tiger Fight Song"!) from the stands. They also perform on the field at halftime of each game.
Of course, the FHS Tiger Band also competes in numerous marching contests, including:
Among their many awards over the years, the FHS Band has been crowned the Grand Champion at the West Texas Auxiliary Championships 11 of the last 12 years. The Tiger Band also earned a birth and performed in the biennial UIL Class 4A Texas State Marching Contest in 1999, 2001, 2003, 2005, and 2009. They eagerly look forward to their next opportunity to do so in 2011!
During the concert season, the Tiger Band features three bands:
Throughout the concert season you can find the FHS Bands on stage at various performance venues across West Texas. During their annual Band Trip in the Spring, the Tiger Band expands their horizons by taking their music on the road a little farther from home. In the last ten years the Tiger Band has performed at places such as:
Just like on the field during marching season, the Tiger Band takes home many trophies from the stage, too. In 2010 the FHS Band earned their 17th consecutive Sweepstakes Award at the UIL Concert and Sight-reading Contest.
We're proud of the trophies, of course, and the memories and friends we make are priceless, but the true purpose of music education is preparing young musicians for life, because music is life!
