What is Scrip?

Scrip is a word that means "substitute money".  In more common terminology, scrip is gift cards from national and local retailers - the exact same gift cards that you purchase at the store.  Examples of scrip available through our new program include:

• JCPenney
• The Gap
• Shell
• Pizza Hut
• Domino's
• Chili's
• Home Depot
• Lowe's Home Improvement
• Many, many others.

How does scrip help us raise money?

The participating retailers agree to sell gift certificates to Frenship Band Boosters at a discount.  Booster families like yours buy the gift cards for full face value, and redeem them for full face value.  The difference between the face value and our discounted price is profit for Frenship Band Boosters.  It's totally free money!  Plus, everyone wins:

• The retailer gets cash up front, and repeat business.
• You get a powerful fundraising alternative that involves absolutely no selling!
• Frenship Band Boosters gets a regular source of revenue.

The most beautiful thing about scrip is that your regular household budget goes to work for you and for Frenship Band Boosters.  And scrip can be used for virtually any household purchase, including food, clothing, entertainment, home improvement, lodging, fuel, dining out - you name it, it is most likely available via scrip!
