Each year the 320+ member FHS Tiger Band performs and competes all across Texas to the delight of many.  We are active in marching band, concert band, jazz band, and support all students to pursue success at an individual level in TMEA All-Region band and UIL Solo/Ensemble.

MARCHING  BAND

During marching season, the Tiger Band supports the Tiger football team at each regular season game and playoff game offering up entertaining tunes from the stands.  They also perform on the field at halftime for every game.

The FHS Tiger Marching Band competes in several contests including:

  • Tumbleweed Marching Festival (Denver City, TX)

  • West Texas Auxiliary Championships (Lubbock, TX)

  • Midland BOA (Midland, TX)

  • UIL Class 6A Region 16 Marching Contest (Lubbock, TX)

  • UIL Class 6A Area A Marching Contest (Odessa, TX) [biennial]

Among their many awards over the years, the FHS Band has been crowned the Grand Champion at the West Texas Auxiliary Championships for the past 21 years.  The Tiger Band also performed in the biennial UIL Class 4A & 6A Texas State Marching Contest in 1999, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2009, 2011, 2012, and 2014. We are consistent in our first divisions at regional marching contest and are frequent contenders at the area marching contest held every other year.

During the concert season, the Tiger Band features four bands:

  • Honors Band

  • Symphonic Band

  • Concert Band

  • Freshmen Band

JAZZ BAND

The jazz band is another outlet for students in the Frenship band to explore their musical creativity and enhance their playing skills.  Jazz band is voluntary and open to all who are interested.

Students will research the history of jazz, take note of many of the forerunners of jazz, and play repertoire that spans through the age of jazz.  Students may expect to perform at school-affiliated concerts and local venues (especially during the holidays)!
